about this project

Working for the NSW Government Department of Premier and Cabinet, we completed the design and printing of the report for the Special Commission of Inquiry into the Ruby Princess. In March 2020, a great number of infected people disembarked the Ruby Princess cruise ship in Sydney and travelled to their homes, spreading the Covid-19 virus across the country. This was the most significant setback for Australia during the early days of the pandemic.

It was devastating not only for the country but for the loved ones of those who died after contracting Covid-19 either on the ship or from those who disembarked.

In a time of great insecurity, national health care was the most important issue. It was important for us as designers to present the findings of this inquiry in a clear and engaging way to maximise the positive impact the report would have – improving protocols and processes for the future.

We designed the document in an official style which is also thoughtful, respectful and free of unnecessary decorations or visual accessories; to feel serious and impactful yet calm.

The subject covered is technical and complex, but the design is clear, accessible, concise and digestible.

Extreme attention to detail, from micro to macro, along with a highly considered use of white space, keep this extensive, 320-page, 14-chapter report visually engaging.
